Characterization of the tumor microenvironment
Understanding the complex interactions between malignant cells, stromal cells, and infiltrating lymphocytes requires the ability to finely distinguish each cell type, and is prerequisite to enabling personalized cancer treatments. Due to the heterogeneous environment that a tumor presents, it is difficult to discern the different cell populations using bulk cell approaches. Analysis of gene expression at a single cell level is required to obtain a high-resolution understanding of the cell populations that contribute to the TME.
